What's It Gonna Be?

Times are tough, we all know.

Over here, your fearless blogger is beginning to wonder what's going to happen to his job. And there are times my beautiful fiancee and I seriously wonder if everything is going to come crashing down on us.

What can we do?

Well, for those of us who are more enterprising, I'd like to refer you to Mr. Jonathan Fields' site -- he's a former attorney who now makes his living blogging! I see him as a beacon in the wilderness, as I may need to follow his example to do what I love and stay alive. If you dodn't already see him in "Blogs I'm Following," definitely check it out at jonathanfields.com. Dude is amazing!

I have a job that leaves me sapped, and JB's career involves crazy hours and ridiculous commitments just to make the rent. Something has to give! I've known people who live like millionaires, and I've known people who are poorer than poor. Which will it be for us? We live in a really nice building in Jersey City, great view of Manhattan, close to everything -- we have to keep it!

I have already decided that if I lose my job (for whatever reason that might be), I will hit the ground running like a madman. I will e-mail resumes to every single job I see online, and I will find any type of "temporary" job there is available, no matter what it is, to bring in the money. Unemployment doesn't pay crap, for good reason!

In the meantime though, it would make me a little happier if there was a way to monetize these Google ads. Nothing's happening there . . . .

Bottom line, I have a life and I will defend it. Who's with me?

Something's Got To Give

I don't know, maybe it's the economy, but I'm starting to think that the American employee is an endangered species. It's only too easy for businesses to lay people off to cut costs in "this economy" -- and if you're on someone's s-list, it's even easier!

That's why, deep down, I want to become a professional blogger. Professional speaker, professional personality, someone who people listen to and are willing to pay to hear him! That's really what I've been after my whole life. I could do it not only for myself, but to set examples for others who want to experience a life's fulfillment. How many people can do that just slaving away at a job that will only dump you on your head when they get bored with you?!

JFK once noted that the Chinese character for "crisis" is the same one for the word "opportunity." I think this crisis is an "opportunity" for a new America -- for a new generation of idealists, thinkers, and entrepreneurs to change the world for the better. A chance to quietly dispose of the one we knew before, which brought us to this state of economic ruin, and to fearlessly build a new one!

No easy task, for sure, but it beats waiting for the old way to just kill us slowly. So let's all just throw those crying towels in the wash, and make this world better than it once was!

Ahhh, Sundays

What is it about Sundays. For some, it's a day of rest and religious obligation. For others, between August and February, it's football day. But for many more of us, it's a day to brace ourselves for what's to come.

Take me -- it's 7PM and I'm already thinking about what tomorrow may bring. I'm just going to Civil Queens to stip out a discovery motion, but there may be some late developments in the Crazy Russian Lady case. That's supposed to go to trial Tuesday, hopefully for the last time -- but tomorrow is when I'll find out if I'm accompanying trial counsel to Court. It's my case, I know all the facts, but the boss wanted someone else to take it to trial -- that happens a lot for political reasons, but they might want me to go to only argue that motion to dismiss prior to trial (which they scheduled for the same date). Nothing would make me happier than sending this woman packing -- so sick of how Civil Court just spoon-feeds these pro-se's and lets them get away with everything. Is this Court or is it Kindergarten? Sheeesh!

Oh well -- JB and I will have dinner soon, and it'll be just another Sunday.

Things I Miss . . .

One of my cases have been heating up. Yup, the Crazy Russian Lady Case. We filed an Order to Show Cause to have the case dismissed because she has no damages. This morning I left the OSC for the judge to sign in Civil Kings, and was told to come back in 3 hours (yeh roit!) Carlos, the copy guy, went there and conformed copy -- yes they signed it, and it'll be returnable same day as trial.

And guess who Carlos saw at Court? The Crazy Russian Lady herself! She had been trying to file her own motion against us because she didn't like the way we objected to her discovery demands -- and her motion was short-served TWICE!! Carlos had the pleasure of watching a clerk yell at her and tell her she has to "follow rules!" LOL, priceless!

But besides today's great events, I want to talk about people I miss. Since I've gotten engaged and moved to Newport (Jersey City), I don't get to see a lot of people very often, and I want to re-connect.

My "other family" on Long Island misses me. My lifelong friend Dave, his wife Ann, and their two boys Rafe & Reign, as well as a few other supporting characters! I want to see them on a Sunday night in July -- just gotta make sure I can be available! It's been a long time since I've seen that whole gang and I miss them, I really do. I miss being the only grown-up "invited" into Rafe's room to hang out on his bunkbed and watch Thomas and play video games. I also miss being at the table and hearing David hold court on everything -- he really is one of the smartest people I've known.

Also would like to hear about what's going on with Ann's friend D. She has a new man in her life, whom she deserves. I miss her 3 girls too -- it still cracks me up the way Caitlin would always seek me out and say "you my baw-friend!"

The person on Long Island I miss the most of all would have to be my sister, also known as "The Nayz!" She still cracks me up like mad, she's the ultimate character. We always used to go to Touch of Italy in Baldwin (or as she called it, "Touch") on the weekends, and she'd update me on all the "kooks!" Ahhh, Miss Nayz!

But I also miss my Lady JB, who I'm picking up tonight from class. Hopefully we won't be out too late tonight, I seriously need my sleep -- and this weekend we're going to Princeton (again -- hoo boy).

And JB's parents remind me of how much I miss my own!

So that's what I miss -- let's just be happy for what we have, people!

Help Me Out, All!

Hopefully, I might have drawn a few followers from the neighboring realms of Facebook and MySpace to see me attempt to "take it live."

I love litigation -- it's the closest I've ever gotten to contact sports. The competition, the problem solving, the ultimate satisfaction that comes with winning a good case (and settling a bad one). If I really didn't like it, I would have stopped doing this in my first year (and with the boss I had back then, there was reason to stop).

But lately I've started to get back in touch with my "real" purpose in life: to motivate men and boys suffering from low self esteem. After all, I was one of them -- I didn't go to school for psychology of social work, but us guys with low self-esteem just "know" how it is.

I've lately become entranced with the notion that it is possible, however unlikely, to "blog" for a living. How about that, leave more time for my fiancee, time to tie the knot and start a family, and actually live life with a low amount of stress.

For now, I still need to "keep my day job," but it is possible for attorneys to either go out on their own, or even work as those despised "per-diem" attorneys we've all seen in Brooklyn and the Bronx, who charge $100 to appear for another firm's case, and then go home as soon as Court is over. Or maybe even charge for legal research without having to make billable hours in an office. It can be done, this is true. However, something tells me that the money there ebbs and flows, and there is no steady paycheck, kinda like the way my fiancee's business works.

Either way you slice it, your friend here needs (a) more money; (b) more time; (c) more satisfiaction, you name it! But before I become the patron saint of the confidence-lacking, I must prove that I'm not afraid to ask for a little advice. So how 'bout it?

Don't be afraid to shoot a comment my way.

Hello Again!

For some reason, the introductory post I published yesterday didn't seem to make the final cut. Oh well, here it goes again.

Some of my fans from MySpace may remember my weekly contributions. For a while I had been blogging about the weekly Bible reading. Dave Hines, wherever you are out there, I promise I'll start 'em up again!

In any event, today was funny. Had this motion in Supreme Kings for summary judgment. Plaintiff's lawyer didn't show up at the second call, and it was marked "granted -- settle order on notice." So as SOON as a I leave the courtroom, guess who shows up? We go back inside, I demand they keep it marked "granted," and of course they won't do it. I went to another courtroom to wait for the judge, who was on trial, to decide this issue, but ultimately just marked it submitted. And before I did that, my adversary called me an a--hole and a b---h for being "so competitive. He actually apologized later, but whatever -- his case is a flipping loser anyway.

And then back at the ranch (that is, my office), we have been getting into a fight with opposing counsel in a declaratory judgment action. They want to copy the file in the underlying personal injury action (all 10 redwells), and we want them to pay for 2 Bates-stamped copies, one for them and one for us. But because her client doesn't want to foot the bill that way, she has been threatening us with sanctions. So we get on the phone with the Judge's law secretary for a conference, and the law secretary just "passes the buck" and has us write a letter memorandum setting forth our positions, supported by case law. In the meantime, we are gonna get two copies ready to go.

?!?!?!? What did I just say? Oh don't mind me, I'm still speaking lawyerese. Tomorrow I'll edit this whole thing and translate it into English, LOL!

But tomorrow I'm going to the MoneyFest at the NY Hilton. The Trump will be there, and so will Suze Ormond. No matter who I see, I want to learn how to earn more $$$ -- especially if it involves blogging for money!

Wish me luck -- and keep on clickin' for me!

Getting It Started Again

Yes world, the Man is back. Known to many as RunningLaw, known to others as Dax and Chung Lee. Yeeeah, those of you doing a search might even recognize me from MySpace and Facebook, too!

In about 36 hours, I'm going to the MoneyExpo.

Because people, I have a new love in my life. A precious lady known as Miss JB. She is a great success in her career, but I have to be the man in this relationship and support us both. I have a great job, but there's nothing wrong with adding a little extra $$$, ya dig?

Ugh. I'm tired tonight. Tomorrow morning I have oral argument in Supreme Kings (oh right, forgot to mention I'm an attorney). Gotta really nail this summary judgment motion for sure!

OK, that's it. Nighty night, and a pleasnat tomorrow!
